Today I want to talk about Movember, what is it? Why it is awesome to get involved and how you can help raise money for prostate cancer and awareness of men’s health.
What is Movember? Movember started in 2003 in Australia and has raised over $80m US dollars for prostate cancer and men’s health. It is a month long world-wide event where men start clean shaven on November 1st and grow and cultivate a moustache until November 30th in all manner of styles and configurations!
It’s a great cause, and It’s a hell of a lot fun!
These last 3 days I’ve attended for the first time Blog World Expo 2011 here in LA. This event is the premier event for bloggers and those interested in social media each year and it has blown me away!
In the closing Blog World Expo keynote Aisha Tyler said some profound words which really resonated with me –“A rising tide lifts all boats” – that we need to think about collaboration not competition, especially as bloggers and leaders in social media. If we want to be taken seriously by brands and big businesses and have an impact in the world we need to do all in our power to help each other lift our game and succeed in each of our respective missions.
This really struck a chord with me and I completely agree. In fact as a new blogger only been doing this now for about 6 weeks (this is my 7th post) I’ve been completely blown away with the encouragement, help and how open established bloggers are to talk with me here at Blog World Expo.

What can you do?

For those in social media or bloggers, you have an audience, you are a leader, people look to you as an example. If you show your support with the #SocialMo hashtag this could become huge and raise massive awareness for men’s health. It is completely in your power to be the change you want to see in the world and create massive impact.

Movember has really kicked off. Some of my Aussie mates introduced the idea to me a while back but now it’s really spread.
Heard it was a great success! These mustache fellas are doing something great!
